On a magical Halloween night in 2013, our paths crossed in Chicago. Evan had come into the city with friends to see one of their favorite DJs, while Jessica was out celebrating Halloween with friends at the very same show.

Wearing a Prince Purple Rain jacket, Evan spotted Jessica standing on a balcony, partially hidden behind a Batman mask, and decided to strike up a conversation. He was instantly intrigued by the mysterious woman behind the mask.

After that night, we stayed in touch despite the distance, with Evan in Minneapolis and Jessica in Chicago. Before long, Evan was making the trip to Chicago about once a month, and we quickly realized we had something special. The following summer, we set off on a 10-day road trip through the Rocky Mountains, Utah, and Montana.

Somewhere between the breathtaking views, long drives, and unforgettable adventures, we realized we wanted to build a life together. That fall, Jessica moved to Minnesota, and the rest is history.
